The aronia berry, also called the chokeberry is considered to be the highest antioxidant berry of all the fruits.  The berries come naturally in three colors: red, purple, and black-purple.  Good Berry Farms grows Aronia melanocarpa, the black-purple species. 

Fun Facts

  • Aronia berries can be used as ingredients in breakfast cereal, cakes, muffins, pies, ice-cream, syrups, juices, jams, jellies, and teas.  Wine and beer can also be made using aronia berries. 

  • Aronia is a rich source of dietary fibers. Vitamins A, E, C, K, B9 and minerals such as calcium, potassium, iron, and manganese.

  • Fresh aronia berries have a bitter, earthy taste.  Red berries are sweeter however, they have a lower nutritional value when compared to the blue and black varieties.

  • Native Americans used aronia in treatment of the common cold.  The root of aronia can be used to stop the bleeding of wounds, while the bark can be used to treat fever and diarrhea. 

  • In Poland and Russia, the aronia berry juice is a very popular drink that is used to help with heart conditions.
